The Nepali team comprises eight players -- Deepak Maharjan (81 kg), Sudesh Manandhar (52 kg), Purna Bahadur Lama (60 kg), Laxman Tamang (49 kg), Ukesh Nagarkoti (56 kg), Ratna Bahadur Tamang (64 kg), Uddhab Khatri (75 kg) and Sudhan Gurung (61 kg). The players will be accompanied by coaches Prabin Tuladhar and Bishnu Bahadur Thing.[break]
"Players having potential of winning medals have been sent for abroad training," General Secretary Shrestha said, "Now players like Deepak Maharjan will not have problem of a sparring partner." Pakistan Boxing Association will bear all the training cost.
According to pugilist Maharjan, the tournament will be helpful for the Olympic Qualifiers for Asian region and for the New Delhi SAG.
"Boxing Association has provided opportunity for contesting in international tournaments almost every month. National Sports Council has also started preparations for the SAG much before the event," Maharjan said, adding, "These long abroad trainings will boost players´ confidence."
Not only the Nepali and Pakistani players, but also players from other countries will arrive for training in Pakistan, according to General Secretary Shrestha.
Meanwhile, Nepali boxers will also compete in the Third Benazir Bhutto International Boxing Championship to be held in Pakistan in November.
The gold, silver and bronze medalists of each category will bag a purse of US$ 850, US$ 500 and US$ 250 respectively. Similarly the champion and runner-up teams will bag US$ 5,000 and US$ 2,000 respectively.
