KATHMANDU, Oct 23: Four Nepali boxers are set to play in the 21st AIBA Men's World Boxing Championship to be held in Serbia. The boxers, including gold medalists Bhupendra Thapa and Sanil Sahi of the 13th South Asian Games (SAG), will compete in the World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.


The championship is being held from October 25 to November 6. Rabin Thapa in the 48 kg weight group, Puran Rai in the 57 kg while Bhupendra and Sanil  in the 63.5 kg weight  and 67 kg weight group respectively will represent Nepal.

Sports Minister Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj, National Sports Council member Ekendra Kunwar and Nepal Boxing Association president Ram Awale bid farewell to the Nepali team at a function organized at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Singha Durbar on Friday.


President of Nepal Boxing Association, Ram Awale is also attending the championship at the invitation of AIBA while celebrating the 75th anniversary of the International Boxing Association. As many as 650 boxers from 105 nations will compete in 13 weight groups at the championship.


Similarly, in each weight group, the gold medalist will receive USD 100,000, the silver winner USD 50,000, and the two bronze medalists will receive usd 25,000 each.
