Nepali boxers heading for Uzbekistan

KATHMANDU, April 26:Two Nepali boxers including Puran Rai and Dipak Shrestha are set to take part in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from April 27 to May 8.

 

Puran will compete in men's 56 kg category while Dipak will take part in men's 64 kg event in the competition which is also the qualifiers for the AIBA World Boxing Championships to be held in Germany in September. Dipak had won a bronze medal in the same weight category in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) held in India last year. Prakash Thapa Magar will accompany the players as coach. Similarly, Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) President Ram Awale, honorary lifetime president of NBA Bishnu Gopal Shrestha and Treasurer Gautam Sujkhu are also leaving for the Uzbek capital.

Meanwhile at a function organized at National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday to bid farewell to the Tashkent-bound team, NBA President Awale, Honorable Lifetime President Shrestha and Member Om Narayan Shrestha announced cash prizes for the Nepali boxers if they performed well Tashkent.  Awale and Shrestha announced Rs 100,00 reward per player qualifying for AIBA World Boxing Championships and Rs 50,000 for each player winning a bout. 


Similarly, NBA's Member Shrestha announced cash prize of Rs 50,000 to players if they qualify for AIBA World Boxing Championships and Rs 25,000 to the players winning a bout.

 

NSC's Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista bid farewell to the Nepali team which is leaving on Thursday.
