Nine boxers selected for Thailand Open boxing

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: A total of six men and three women boxers have been selected for the upcoming Thailand Open International Boxing Championship, to be held from April 1 to 10.

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: A total of six men and three women boxers have been selected for the upcoming Thailand Open International Boxing Championship, to be held from April 1 to 10. 


Tribhuvan Army Club’s Lalita Maharjan, Minu Gurung, Punam Rawal, Puran Sunuwar, Ganesh Pradhan and Rabi Sunuwar,  Nepal Police Club’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa, Bhupendra Thapa and non-departmental boxer Sanil Shahi were selected for the championship through a selection tournament.


Army’s Lalita Maharjan beat Nepal Police Club’s Diwana Sharma in women’s 51 kg to get selected for the tournament.

In women’s 57 kg weight category bout, Army’s Gurung got a walkover from Army’s Chandrakala Thapa. 


Army’s Rawal sealed qualification in the women’s 60 kg on Wednesday. 


Likewise, Police’s Chandra Bahadur defeated Army’s Sushil Thapa Magar in men’s 52 kg, while Army’s Sunuwar won the 57-kg final bout against Lalitpur’s Buddha Gyamjo Lama to book their place in the final selection.


Likewise, Kathmandu’s Shahi saw off Jhapa’s Abhinaya Rai in men’s 63 kg, Police’s Bhupendra beat Dang’s Bikash Rana in men’s 69 kg, and Army’s Ganesh Pradhan overcame Dang’s Kishor Khatri in men’s 81 kg to go through. 


Also, Army’s Ravi Sunuwar was selected as he did not have an opponent to face.
