Nepalgunj COVID-19 patient had returned from India two months ago, says hasn’t moved out of the city during this period

NEPALGUNJ, May 1: Of the two COVID-19 cases reported in Province 5 on Friday, one is from Nepalgunj of Banke. 


The 60-year-old man tested positive for this disease on Friday.


According to Dr Prakash Thapa, superintendent of the Nepalgunj-based Bheri Hospital, the man told them that he has been in Nepalgunj for the last two months.

Also a teacher at a Madrasa, his swab samples were collected from a mosque near Mahendra Park. 


After he was diagnosed with the disease, he has been kept in an isolation ward set up at the Khajura-based Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital. Dr Thapa also informed Republica that his health condition is normal. 


“Although he returned from India two months ago, he claimed that he has not gone out of Nepalgunj in this period, said Dr Thapa adding that his family and relatives are in regular contact with them. 


The local administration has sealed various places of Nepalgunj after the first case was reported in the city. 


“In a bid to prevent the spread of this virus, we have sealed four different areas,” informed the Chief District Officer of Banke, Kumar Bahadur Khadka. Security at the mosque has also been tightened, according to Khadka. 


An emergency meeting of the security committee, Banke has decided to tighten the lockdown following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case in the district. 


The city of Nepalgunj wore a deserted look on Friday evening as people were frightened due to the news of a COVID-19 patient in the city.
