Nepal winless in second round qualifiers

KATHMANDU, May 1: Nepal U-19 women's football team went down 2-1 to Myanmar in AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Second Round Qualifiers held at Mandalathiri stadium, Mandalay, Myanmar on Tuesday. Nepal lost all three group games.

KATHMANDU, May 1: Nepal U-19 women's football team went down 2-1 to Myanmar in AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Second Round Qualifiers held at Mandalathiri stadium, Mandalay, Myanmar on Tuesday. Nepal lost all three group games.



Nepal has already been knocked out of the tournament after losing first two matches of Group A against Australia (conceding 11 goals to 1) and Uzbekistan (conceding 4 goals to nil).

Nepal finished the group stage with three losses and no points on the board.  


Nepal started brightly ending first half with 1-0 lead. Manisha Raut converted from spot-kick after Priti Rai was tackled in the danger area by the Myanmar defender who received the red-card for the offense. Nepal was comfortably on top at the half-time as Myanmar lost a player for poor discipline.

However, Myanmar made a triumphant comeback in the match scoring two goals to secure promotion in the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship ahead of Uzbekistan who went down 4-1 to Australia earlier in the day. With three wins, Australia topped the group while Myanmar collected six points from two wins.


Nepal team had already crashed out from running for the championship after two successive defeats.

 Along with Nepal, Australia, Uzbekistan and Myanmar compromised the group from which two teams went through to 3rd round of qualifiers, which is also a road to FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.  The 2019 AFC U-19 Women's Championship second round qualifiers is a women's under-19 football competition which decides the participating teams of the 2019 AFC U-19 Women's Championship.

The draw for the second round of the qualifiers was held on 13 February 2019, at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 


For the second round, the eight teams were drawn into two groups of four teams. 

The teams were seeded according to their performance in the 2017 AFC U-19 Women's Championship final tournament and qualification.
