KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Nepal Police, Tikaram Dhungana, who was deployed to ensure the security of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during his visit to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), tragically succumbed to altitude sickness.
ASI Dhungana had reached ABC via a helicopter on October 29 as part of the security detail for Guterres. After the UN Secretary General departed in the helicopter, Dhungana, along with rural municipality chief Bishnu KC and others, began their descent on foot.

Dhungana spent the previous night at a location known as Himalaya, but in the morning, he encountered breathing difficulties. Helicopters were used to transport him to Pokhara for medical attention, but upon arrival, doctors pronounced him dead.
Kaski Police Chief SP Mohan Thapa disclosed that Dhungana was a resident of Parbat and was stationed in Ghandruk.
