Nepal beat Kuwait, enter semi

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Nepal have conformed their semifinal spot in the ACC Women´s Twenty20 Cricket Championship defeating host Kuwait by 47 runs on Sunday after being undefeated in the three matches played till date.



Losing the toss Nepal were invited to bat first and scored 103 runs for four wickets in 20 overs and restricted Kuwait to 56 runs for nine wickets at KEC.[break]

 

Nepal did not have a good start as in the earlier matches. Nepal lost its opener, Manisha Rawal early in the match. Rawal scored nine runs off 25 balls with a four. Sita Magar and Rashmi Sharma had a good partnership and brought Nepal to the fighting position.



Magar scored 22 runs off 37 balls while Sharma scored 20 runs off 32 balls with three boundaries. Sarita Magar scored eight runs off seven balls while Captain Nary Thapa was not out on 10 runs off 16 balls.



Siobhan Gomez, Sabreen Zaki, Anisha D´Silva, Maryam Omar shared a wicket each for Kuwait.



Kuwait either could not start well in the chasing and surrendered in front of tight bowling from Nepal. They lost wickets in the regular interval. Captain Gomez was the highest scorer of the match with 12 runs off 20 balls. Except the captain, none of the Kuwait players was able to cross the double figure.



Player of the match Karuna Bhandari destroyed  Kuwait batting lineup claming four wickets in her spell of four overs conceding 10 runs. Sarita Magar, Rashmi Sharmaa and Nary Thapa shared a wicket each.



Nepal will face Malaysia on Monday in the last league-match of the tournament.
