Auro Asish Choudhuri, TVS Motors Company´s general manager for international business, is currently in Kathmandu for the launch of TVS Phoenix. The company is launching the bike amid a program on Thursday. In an interview with Sujan Dhungana of Republica, Choudhuri talked about the new bike and the performance of TVS in Nepal. Excerpts:

You are in Nepal to launch TVS Phoenix. How is the Nepali market for TVS bikes?

TVS has been serving Nepal for the past 17 years. I see huge potentiality in Nepal not only for TVS bikes, but for all two-wheelers. It is one of the fastest growing two-wheelers markets in South Asia. Demand for motorbikes among Nepalis is growing manifolds. With the rising demand, I believe that two-wheelers companies can explore the Nepali market to a greater extent in the coming days. [break]

What makes TVS Phoenix stand out in the market?

TVS Phoenix is a 125 cc bike loaded with features like digital speedometer with digital fuel gauge, low battery reminder, service reminder and trip meter. With the service reminder technology, costumers will know when they need to take their bike for servicing. Similarly, the bike incorporates a petal disc that secures rider´s journey. The Phoenix has stitched seat, LED pilot lamps and alloy wheel. These features have established TVS Phoenix as a premium model in its category.

What is the market share of TVS two-wheelers in Nepal? What is the sales target of TVS Phoenix here in Nepal?

At present, we enjoy around 10 percent share in Nepal´s two-wheelers market. However, we aim to increase our share in Nepal along with the launch of TVS Phoenix and other launches until the end of fiscal year 2013/14. By introducing the new model just ahead of the festive season, we expect to sell 200 units of Phoenix within a month of its launch.

Is there any specific segment that the TVS Phoenix is targeting?

The TVS Phoenix is not a flashy vehicle. It has been designed for family use and for office-goers. The bike gives an average mileage of 65 km/liter. I believe that this bike will add a new dimension in Nepal´s two-wheelers market.

What about the after sales service?

TVS is committed to providing long term service to its customers. We reinforce means and manners to consumer satisfaction. The TVS Phoenix will follow the same services that we gave to the owners of our previous models. We will try satisfying our customers with complete service through our trained officials across the country.

Is TVS planning for new launches in Nepal?

We will introduce couple of new models by the end of this fiscal year. We are planning to introduce a refreshed variant of Apache RTR and a scooter in the near future.
