KATHMANDU, May 18: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has urged the government not to violate the standards for determining the indigenous nationalities.

Enlisting of any communal group or indigenous nationalities cannot be done from a political decision, any whim or agreement, NEFIN said in a press communiqué, adding that there are national and international standards for fixation of the indigenous nationalities.

The communiqué signed by Federation Chairman Raj Kumar Lekhi states that there is a need of study and research while enlisting any community as an indigenous group.

The communiqué also urged the government not to suppress the agitation undertaken by the federation and the Joint Tharu Struggle Committee.
