NC's ballot boxes taken to party central office

KATHMANDU, March 7: The entire ballot boxes of the Nepali Congress (NC)'s 13th National Convention except that of party president election have been taken to the party central office, Sanepa.

The vote counts of the presidential election were completed at Rastriya Sabha Griha at 5:30 this morning. However, the party is all set to conduct the run off as none of the president candidates managed to garner majority of the total voters.


Secretary of the Election Committee Jagannath Shrestha said that the ballot boxes were taken to the party central office in the presence of candidates after the Election Committee took decision regarding the voting rights of 30 nominated National Convention representatives.

A total of 3,148 voters cast their votes out of the 3,161 representatives for 10 office-bearers and 61 central committee members.

Run off at 2:00 pm

Meanwhile, the Election Committee Secretary Pradip Parajuli said that the reelection to pick the party president would start at 2:00 this afternoon and would continue till 5:00 pm today.

As none of the party president candidates got 50 per cent votes in the election of the party president, the NC is supposed to conduct run off to pick the party president as per the party statute to pick the party president.

President candidates Ram Chandra Poudel and Sher Bahadur Deuba would vie for the party president in the reelection while Krishna Prasad Sitaula is out of the presidential race. RSS
