KATHMANDU, April 30: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to go for the local level elections after accommodating all political parties.

A meeting of the former and sitting office bearers of NC Parliamentary Party held at party office today morning decided to create an environment favourable, through an amendment to the new constitution, for all political parties including the main opposition CPN-UML and disgruntled Madhes-based political parties to take part in the polls, said NC chief secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel.

The meeting also discussed the issue that the NC as the largest party in Parliament would take a leading role in creating an environment for the elections by endorsing the constitution amendment proposal in agreement with all political parties, said a participant NC lawmaker Ram Krishna Yadav.

The NC has finalised candidacy for approximately 80 per cent of rural municipalities and municipalities in Province 3, 4 and 6 for the May 14 elections, said Poudel. Tickets have already been sent for the candidates who have been finalised for candidacy, he said, adding that final name list of other candidates for the remaining local units would be confirmed by coming Monday morning.

The meeting was attended by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala and treasurer Sita Devi Yadav among others. RSS
