KATHMANDU, Sept 9: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has recommended Chitra Lekha Yadav as Nepal’s ambassador to Australia. Following widespread criticism for not adhering to the principle of inclusion in ambassadorial recommendations, NC has endorsed Yadav as the ambassador to Australia.
According to a source within the ministry, the NC has endorsed Yadav as an ambassador under their quota, and her name will soon be forwarded to the Cabinet for approval.

On July 30, the government had recommended ambassadors for 18 countries, which was criticized for not being inclusive. On September 3, the International Relations and Tourism Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) decided to draw the government's attention to the lack of inclusivity in ambassadorial recommendations. Then Minister Deuba appeared before the committee and apologized, saying, "I am sorry" for the lack of inclusivity in the ambassadorial recommendations.
Earlier, the government had recommended Kanta Rijal as the ambassador to Australia under the NC’s quota. However, her nomination was withdrawn after complaints were filed with the Ministry, alleging that she had failed to bring back an aide she had taken with her during her tenure as the ambassador to Israel.
Yadav has previously served as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Treasurer of the NC, former Education Minister, and a central committee member.
The discussion regarding the proposed ambassadors is under consideration in the parliamentary committee.
