KATHMANDU, March 5: Rival faction within the main opposition party Nepali Congress has decided to stand against the unilateral move of the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to form the party's central department and nominate Central Working Committee (CWC) members even as the date for the 14th general convention has already been declared.
A meeting of the rival faction leaders held at the residence of senior leader Prakash Man Singh at Chaksibari on Wednesday also decided to boycott the orientation meeting of the party's district vice presidents called by Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi. Nidhi is one of the close confidants of President Deuba.

NC CWC member Badri Pandey said they decided not to attend any such meetings as it is time for the party to focus on the general convention. NC's Central Policy and Orientation Academy called the meeting of vice presidents to apprise them of the party's plans and policies.
The meeting has decided to fight back against the unilateral move of President Deuba in various key decisions. The rival faction was miffed with President Deuba after he formed several departments and nominated dozens of CWC members without its consent.
Rival faction leaders have maintained that these moves are aimed at influencing the upcoming general convention. Senior leaders including Ram Chandra Paudel, General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala, CWC members Arjun Narasingh KC, Minendra Rijal, Dipak Giri, Sarita Prasain, Badri Pandey and Kalyan Gurung, among others, were present at Wednesday's meeting.
