KATHMANDU, Nov 20: As the crisis resulted from Madhes protest against proposed federal boundaries deepens, the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to take initiatives to hold interparty negotiations with a view to address the concerns of the Madhesi parties.

A meeting of the party's senior leaders held on Friday decided to convene a meeting with leaders from major ruling parties on Saturday morning to discuss how the Madhes issues can be resolved."We have decided to hold talks with all the sides keeping all option open with regard to resolving disputes on proposed provincial boundaries and other issues," said NC Spokesman Dilendra Badu.

The party has planned to conduct negotiations with Madhes-based parties, other opposition parties represented in the parliament and various other stakeholders in an effort to find commonground agreeable for all the sides.

NC's top leaders have planned a discussion with NC lawmakers represented from the Tarai-Madhesh districts with a view to take their inputs on finding the solutions.

The NC that had earlier refused to sit for talks convened by the government and ruling parties' coalition has now shown interest to lead interparty negotiations on its own.

A section of politicians believe in NC's facilitation becoming fruitful as the relations between the main opposition party and Madhesh-based parties have of late improved significantly while the relations between the agitating forces and the ruling parties has now soured badly.

During prime ministerial elections in parliament last month, the Madhesh-based parties had supported NC against the current ruling alliance. These parties are inching closer ever since.
