KATHMANDU, MARCH 27: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the ongoing protests launched by cadres of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) against the Supreme Court and the justice who stayed the retirement of eight army brigadier generals on Tuesday.
The NBA, in a statement Friday, said the protest against the Supreme Court and the burning of the effigy of Justice Kalyan Shrestha have affected the dignity and independence of the judiciary.
The NBA’s concern has come amidst condemnation of the Supreme Court’s interim order on retirement of the brigadiers by the Maoist cadres and media.
Though the apex court’s interim order has been welcomed by the major political parties, the Maoists have criticized the stay order that allowed the eight brigadiers to continue in their posts until another court order.
