Nat'l team to visit eastern region to boost skipper's morale

DHARAN, Sept 1: Nepal´s national football team will visit eastern region of Nepal for friendly matches with local clubs to create winning environment for national team skipper Sagar Thapa in the Pulsar Popular Player of the Year award organized by Nepal Sports Journalists Forum.



The district football associations of Sunsari, Morang and Jhapa have decided to organize friendly matches with the national squad. [break]



The other nominees of the award are Sherya Dhital (swimming), Rahul BK (cricket), Sipora Gurung (volleyball) and Deepak Maharjan (boxing). The popular player of the year will be declared on the basis of SMS votes.



According to the organizers, the national squad will play three friendly matches with the local clubs. National squad will play its first match in Dharan on Saturday, second in Morang on Sunday and the last match at Kakarbhitta on Monday. National team is scheduled to arrive in Dharan on Friday while coach Graham Roberts will reach there on Saturday.



The organizer and the vice president of All Nepal Football Association Kishor Rai said the matches were organized to promote and develop football in the region and support Thapa in winning popular player of the year award.



“The friendly matches have been organized to help Thapa win the award,” Rai said adding, “The local players will get a chance to exhibit their talent.”



According to Vice president Rai the national team will stay in Dharan for further training if the coach finds favorable environment for training there. National squad is currently undergoing training for the SAFF Championship.
