National waste management conference being held in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Dec 7: State Minister for Urban Development Ram Bir Manandhar pointed out the necessity of technological development for the management of waste products in Nepal. 


Speaking at the National Conference of Waste Management in the capital on Friday, Manandhar criticized the previous governments for not developing proper technology to handle the waste management issue.  "Introducing technology won't harm anyone," added he.

Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolis Kedar Neupane stressed for the need of separating the degradable and non-degradable waste materials before disposal. He also said that Nepal can use bio-degradable wastage to make compost manure and check the import of chemical manure from India.


According to Coordinator of the conference Ganesh Shah,  the waste management problem has turned out to be a great challenge along with the rapid urbanization. "Federalism has brought confusions among the governing bodies over their responsibilities,"  added coordinator Ganesh.
