KATHMANDU, August 3: The meeting of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, was adjourned even today after the CPN-UML obstructed it. As soon as the meeting started, the UML MPs rose from their chairs demanding an investigation into the gold smuggling case. After that, Speaker Ganesh Timilsina gave time to MP Bhairav Sundar Shrestha to speak.
MP Shrestha reiterated his stance that the House will not be allowed to function until a high-level committee is formed to investigate “the gold smuggling taking place through the airport.”

Chairman Timilsina said that the meeting had been interrupted many times and the attention of the government had also been drawn to the issue of gold and asked them to sit down and conduct the meeting. But the UML MPs did not allow the meeting to take place saying that the government was not serious and did not form an inquiry committee.
After the UML parliamentarians did not allow the parliament to run, the Speaker called the next meeting for 1:10 pm on August 7. The UML had also obstructed the meeting of the House of Representatives, demanding the formation of a high-level investigation committee while suspecting the government’s involvement in the gold scandal.
