KATHMANDU, Feb 6: The Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel is set for a breakthrough on March 6.


Deputy Director of the Nagdhunga Tunnel Project Gobinda Dumaru announced the progress of the Nagdhunga Tunnel during the meeting of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly on Tuesday.

He said that preparations are underway to achieve a breakthrough of the tunnel on March 6. He said that only 32 meters of the 2.688 km main tunnel remain to be excavated. He said that efforts are underway to address issues including some compensation to locals towards Dhading and Kathmandu. He said that 2,636 meters of tunnel digging work has been completed so far.


He said that the physical progress of the overall project is 68.5 percent with the completion of three underpasses, four box culverts, one overpass, and three bridges, with an additional flyover under construction. Dumaru said that 71.87 percent of the physical work has been completed with 32 meters of tunnel work remaining.


He said, “68.5 percent of the project's progress has been attributed to tunnel route construction." Regarding compensation, 95 percent of house terrace compensation has been settled, with few remaining issues. The main tunnel breakthrough is slated for March 6, with 44 percent of work completed in the current fiscal year.
