NA continues rescue, relief efforts, 42 bodies retrieved from Langtang, five from valley

KATHMANDU, May 3: The Nepal Army ( NA) has continued rescue and relief operations in the earthquake-ravaged areas Saturday, with maximum utilization of available human resources and equipments.

The NA personnel continue to remove rubbles of demolished infrastructures along with the recue and relief efforts, said the NA Directorate of Public Relations.


It has distributed 15 containers of relief goods including 560 tents, blankets, sugar, rice, noodles, biscuits and beaten rice in the disaster-hit areas in Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Dhading, Okhaldhunga, Kavre, Ramechhap, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.

A total of 42 bodies including of 34 locals, one German, one Italian, one Malaysian, one indentified and one Nepali guide, who were buried by the earthquake in Langtang area in Rasuwa district, have been evacuated.

Likewise, three bodies were pulled from the debris in Gongabu area, one from Mahaboudhha and one from Bijeshwori. A total of 527 people including 80 foreign nationals were rescued from the disaster-ravaged areas in Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Dhading, Gorkha, Okhaldhunga, Rasuwa and Solukhmbu.

At least 938 people with earthquake injuries were treated at NA-run Birendra Military Hospital Chhauni and another 248 patients have been brought here on helicopters for advance treatment. The NA distributed 311,000 liters of drinking water through 16 tankers at 38 locations in the Kathmandu Valley Saturday. It has arranged temporary shelter for 251,00 disaster-affected by erecting 642 tents in ten camps. RSS
