The 11-day-long tournament will feature 23 teams,including defending champions Birendra Sainik and runners-up Little Angels´, from the Kathmandu Valley and Kavre.[break]
Organizing a press conference on Tuesday, the organizers stated that the participating teams were divided into four groups and the matches would be held on knockout basis.
According to MYA President Upendraman Singh, the winners and the runners-up will bag a purse of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively along with medals and certificates. Similarly, the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker and highest scorer of the tournament will also be awarded. The expected cost of the tournament is Rs 405,000.
Meanwhile, Varun Beverages Nepal Private Limited, the authorized distributor of Pepsi in Nepal, also signed the sponsorship agreement for the tournament on the occasion. MYA President Singh and Varun Beverages Marketing Manager Sushilratna Tuladhar signed the sponsorship deal on behalf of their respective institutions.
As per the agreement, Varun Beverages will provide Rs 200,000 in cash and drinks of the company during the tournament. Tuladhar of Varun Beverages also declared to provide a Reebok football to the man-of-the-match of each match.
Likewise, Rotary Club of Kathmandu mid-town representative Saroj Shrestha also handed a cheque of Rs 10,000 for organizing the tournament.
Yeti Airlines, Grafi Offshore Nepal Pvt Ltd, Gautam Shrestha, Sanjay Kutu, Prem Kutu, Kumar Dahal, Nepal Investment Bank, Attsh and Adidas are other supporters of the tournament.
According to Singh, the main aim of organizing the tournament is to use the remaining amount collected during the tournament to run the academy established by MYA some four years back. MYA has been training 30 young footballers in its academy.
