KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Dr Mukul Dhakal, former General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), objected to the misinformation surrounding the social media bill. He accused a group of youths of deliberately creating confusion with baseless arguments.
Through social media, he stated, “People are spreading propaganda in society by making illogical arguments just for gaining views. There is no need for needless panic because the Supreme Court can strike down contentious parts of the bill even if it is approved. Nepal’s constitution protects citizens’ freedom; let’s not spread lies and confusion.”

The government has sparked widespread opposition by introducing a bill in Parliament to regulate and secure social media. In response, social media content creators and influencers have launched the "Bolna De Sarkar" (Allow Us to Speak, Government) campaign, criticizing the bill for restricting freedom of expression.
They argue that the proposed bill unnecessarily controls social media users and they stress the need to protect their freedom of expression.
Various information technology groups, including NCA Nepal and Pentester Nepal, continue to oppose the bill. Similarly, digital content creators and YouTubers such as "In-Depth Story," "The Nepali Comment," "Project Kura," "Random Nepali," and "Why So Offended" demand amendments to the bill.
Former RSP General Secretary Dr Mukul Dhakal urged them not to spread misinformation, citing their YouTube videos. Meanwhile, Minister of Communication Prithvi Subba Gurung repeatedly claims that the bill will not interfere with press freedom or freedom of expression.
