Moving passenger bus set ablaze in Chitwan

CHITWAN, Nov 12: Sending a chill down the spine, an unidentified gang set a moving passenger bus ablaze at Kabilas VDC-1 in the district on early Tuesday.



A bus, Na 4 Kha 4734, which was ferrying passengers from Sarlahi to Kathamduwas, was reduced to cinder after a sheet of flame was thrown at it  at 1 am on Tuesday, said DSP Sanjaya Raut of Chitwan District Police Office.



No one has claimed the responsibility of the incident so far. [break]



However, the cadres of the poll-opposing CPN-Maoist -led 33-party alliance is speculated to have have their hand behind the  incident, according to police.



Poll-shy 33-party alliance had called a nationwide general strike on Monday and a vehicular strike from Tuesday.



“Vehicles were being escorted. One bus was moving on its own without escort. The incident occurred when unidentified persons threw a ball of fire at the moving bus from their hideouts,” said DSP Raut.



All the passengers are safe and have been sent to Kathmandu in another bus. The badly damaged bus has been taken to District Police Office.
