KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The government has registered over 5.85 million private vehicles including two-wheelers by the end of the last fiscal year (FY).
The records with the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) show that the number of registered motorbikes has surpassed the number of four-wheelers including cars, jeeps and taxis. As of FY 2024/25, the government has permitted 4,744,072 motorbikes to operate in the country, while the number of registered four-wheelers stands at 366,723.

According to the DoTM, the number of motor vehicles rose by multifolds in the past three decades. In 1990/1991, there were just 76,378 vehicles plying on Nepal’s roads.
The department registered an additional 242,441 vehicles alone in FY 2024/25. Of the number, 196,211 motorbikes were added in the review year.
