More samples from Jajarkot test positive for swine flu

KATHMANDU, April 19: Swine flu has been confirmed in eight samples out of 18 brought from Jajarkot district gripped by the outbreak of seasonal flu.

The blood samples from 18 patients were collected and send to National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) for examination. The laboratory made public the report after 72 hours. 


“N1H1 infection was found in eight out of 18 people,” senior Microbiologist Bishnu Prasad Upadhyay told Republica, “Earlier, three out of 12 samples had tested positive for the flu.”  

NPHL Director Dr Gita Shakya informed that N1H1 has been found in 44 percent of the latest samples, adding that samples have been sought from Rukum and among other districts too.

Some 24 people have died due to outbreak of seasonal flu in Jajarkot since three weeks.
