Saying that the ministry has not been able to fulfill its commitment of providing Internet services to all VDC's , schools and hospitals, Rabindra Adhikari, chairman of the committee, directed the ministry, Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) and the service providers to work seriously on the issue.
NTA has around Rs 12 billion in the fund.
The committee had directed MoIC to work with NTA and service providers to fulfill its commitment earlier also.
Digambar Jha, chairman of NTA, said that he was committed to work on the issue as directed by the committee.
The committee has also suggested to NTA to deactivate SIM cards not in use for three months so that the exact number of mobile phone users can be ascertained. It has also directed service providers to provide quality service, ensure transparency in price, not to levy invisible charges on customers, and address problems of customers immediately.
The parliamentary panel has also directed the telecom regulator to monitor the services on a regular basis. Similarly, it has also directed NTA to connect bandwidth from Chinese towns for better management of network of bandwidths.
