Mobile apps competition in the offing

KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Mobile Social Networking Nepal and Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs´ Forum (NYEF) with support from infoDev, the World Bank, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and Young Innovations are organizing the first ever competition on mobile apps ideas and products in Nepal called “Pivot Nepal”.



Issuing a press statement, the organizers said the objective of the competition is to provide a platform for mobile app developers and other mobile enthusiasts to bring forward their creative and innovative mobile apps ideas, products and prototypes that have the potential to stand outs as sustainable business. “The primary objective of Pivot Nepal is to create enabling environment for developers and entrepreneurs to develop and commercialize mobile apps in Nepalese as well as international market,” the statement said.



The applicants will have to submit their ideas and products under three categories -- social development, utilities and entertainment, business and financial services starting from Monday. Winners of each category will receive cash prize of US$ 1,000 each.



There will also be an overall winner receiving additional cash prize of $3,000 along with a fully funded trip to an international event where they will have an opportunity to further pitch and market their idea, the statement said.
