CANBERRA, Nov 24: Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat has requested Australia Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to establish an Australian visa center in Kathmandu.

Minister Mahat met his Australian counterpart in Canberra on Thursday and discussed the issues related to mutual benefits.

During the meeting, Australian Minister Bishop remarked that more Nepali students arriving in Australia for higher studies and Australia students leaving for Nepal for research works were the positive facets of the people-to-people relation between the two countries.

Then, Minister Mahat drew the attention of his Australian counterpart that Nepali students are having hard time as they are compelled to apply for Australian visa from New Delhi, India, and requested her to establish a visa center in Nepal, according to Personal Secretary to Minister Mahat, Yek Raj Pathak

Minister Mahat also thanked the Australian government and citizens for extending support in the wake of the earthquake that hit Nepal last year. Australian Minister Bishop inquired about reconstruction efforts in Nepal, Pathak said in a statement.
