Midas Technologies, the title sponsor of the 19th edition of CAN Info-Tech, is launching teaching software called Midas eClass at the mega fair. The animated interactive audio-visual teaching tool is designed as per the government’s curriculum.

Chhatra Hari Karki, the company’s managing director, spoke to Republica on prospects of e-learning in Nepal. Excerpts: [break]

CAN Info-Tech has gained popularity as a show of ICT gadgets. As a software company, what do you expect to gain?

Our primary goal is to generate awareness on e-education. We will also be branding Midas eClass which will be launched at the event. We are expecting footfall in large volume and are optimistic about being successful in relaying information to a targeted segment. Visitors these days are more interested in gathering information and knowing the latest trend, rather than buying a product at events like CAN Info-Tech.

Midas Technologies is working in various sectors within ICT. What is the company offering at the event?

Our focus will be on promoting Midas eClass. Besides, there will be presentations on our interactive teaching material in three different halls at the fair.

What is the reason for focusing exclusively on eClass, although you offer wide range of products and services?

We have already unveiled various products and programs related to health and entertainment, among others. So we do not want to distract our visitors by displaying a range of products and services. Our teaching software can play a crucial role in shaping the future of a person.

Currently, the country lacks skilled teachers and resources to extend proper type of education; and in urban area students are getting bored of ‘chalk and talk’ method of teaching. Because of these reasons, our education system is failing to produce the kind of human resources the country needs.

With Midas eClass, we have not only made teaching effective, but interesting as well. It also ensures students are not distracted. We believe the software will also aid rural students even in the absence of qualified teachers. With this, we can bridge rural-urban education divide.

Why did you choose to be the title sponsor of the event?

We believe we have reached a level from where we can inspire aspiring software developers. We have invested a lot of resources and have worked hard in the last 12 years to arrive here. It is an honor for a Nepali company to be the title sponsor of the country’s biggest ICT event.
