Men's U-19 Asia Cup: Nepal bowling first against Sri Lanka

KATHMANDU, Nov 29: The Men's U-19 Asia Cup-2024 began in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today.


Nepal are bowling first against Sri Lanka in the first match organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).


Nepal won the toss and elected to field in the first match underway at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah, the UAE.

Batting first, Sri Lanka were 204 for 8 at the end of 44 overs.


Santosh Yadav emerged as the standout bowler for Nepal, claiming 4 wickets for 45 runs in his full quota of 10 overs, showcasing remarkable control with an economy rate of 4.50. He was supported by Yuvraj Khatri, who chipped in with 2 wickets for 44 runs in 9 overs. Together, they applied constant pressure on the Sri Lankan batting lineup.


For Sri Lanka, Kavija Gamage remains unbeaten with a gritty 19 off 24 balls, while Praveen Maneesha’s dismissal for just 2 runs at a critical juncture left the team struggling at 204/8 by the end of the 44th over.


Nepal’s bowling attack kept the run rate in check, limiting the scoring opportunities and reducing Sri Lanka to a run rate of 4.63.


Nepal will play their second match against Bangladesh on December 1 and against Afghanistan in the third match on December 3.
