The former rebels seized 175 bighas of land in Morang and Sunsari districts in the last two months. They captured over 145 bighas of private and public plots in Sunsari and over 29 bighas in Morang. [break]
The Maoists seized 138 bighas of land owned by one Surendra Agrahari at Chhitaha, Sunsari, and some eight tons of rice produced there.
According to president of the Maoist-aligned All Nepal Landless People´s Organization Surendra Katawal, the seized rice was distributed among the landless people.
Maoist cadres also seized five bighas of land at Chhitaha, owned by local Keshab Baduwal, and over seven katthas owned by Dibyaraj Dahal, and distributed the land among the landless people, according to Insec.
Similarly, the party seized an expensive piece of land in Itahari, owned by Dharan Geeta temple. Previously, the police had dismantled the makeshift huts erected by the landless people.
In Morang, the party seized 16 bighas at Diniya, owned by various individuals. In the same district, a group of Maoists recently hoisted the party flag in 1.5 bighas of private land owned by one Surendra Bahadur Niraula.
According to Insec representative in Morang Dipen Neupane, the party activists seized four bighas owned by Women Development Organization and Janapriya Secondary School at Katahari of Morang, five bighas owned by Nagendra Rajbanshi in Baijanathpur of Jhapa, and four bighas owned by Chandra Acharya at Rajgadh of Jhapa.
