The laborers affiliated to the Maoist trade union had been exerting pressure to the Brewery management to appoint 25 of their supporters as per the understanding reached with the management on appointment of employees. The locals had been opposing this.

Maoist said 20 of its cadres were hurt in the skirmish and the party has called for a district-wide shutdown today in protest against the killing of its laborer.
