The laborers affiliated to the Maoist trade union had been exerting pressure to the Brewery management to appoint 25 of their supporters as per the understanding reached with the management on appointment of employees. The locals had been opposing this.
The clash broke out between the two sides after the villagers prevented 25 Maoist trade union affiliated workers from entering the factory on Tuesday.
Fifty-four years old Buddhiram Mahato, a Maoist cadre, who was injured in the clash succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital on Tuesday night.
Maoist said 20 of its cadres were hurt in the skirmish and the party has called for a district-wide shutdown today in protest against the killing of its laborer.
