NAWALPARASI, Feb 27: Eight-eight new leprosy patients have been found in course of 'Search Campaign, launched at Nawalparasi (west of Bardaghat-Susta) and Nawalparasi (east of Bardaghat-Susta) districts.
A total of 16 new leprosy patients were found at Nawalpur area while 72 at Parasi area under the Search Campaign. Chief of Madhyabindu Community Memorial Hospital, Danda, Ramraj Pandit, said that such number of new leprosy patients were found in the campaign launched at 12 local-level of Nawalpur and Parasi areas.
Leprosy on rise in Jhapa
An expert team comprising health workers and volunteers with the help of Damien Foundation launched the Search Campaign at door steps of the people to identify the new leprosy patients.
Although Nepal was declared as leprosy-free country in 2010, the search campaign was launched after patients suffering from leprosy disease were spotted in some districts including Nawalparasi, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi and Kailali.
A total of 77 new leprosy patients were found in Nawalparasi last year.(RSS)
