The 3rd Shikhar Bangmaya Samman 2066 function was graced by various littérateurs, some political leaders and other professionals from Ghatekulo. Chief guest Prakash Man Singh, parliamentarian and vice-president of the Nepali Congress, offered letters of felicitation and scarves to Shrestha and Nepal.
The event highlighted Shrestha´s remarkable contribution to not just shaping Ghattekulo into a better place to live but also to the entire Nepali society through his radio dramas and his affiliation with various social organizations. At the same time, it also unveiled Leela Nepal´s remarkable contribution to establishing schools at different localities for underprivileged and needy students.
Speaking at the function, NC leader Singh came down hard on the Maoists for their street protests. Referring to the recent Singha Durbar picketing staged by the Maoists for two consecutive days, Singh said, “Creating scenes in front of Singha Durbar is not civilian supremacy. In fact the Unified CPN-Maoist has made joke of the term ´civilian supremacy´. Do they have any idea what it actually means?”
“Needless to say they are masters in impressing people with their sweet and provoking words which ironically are meaningless. The Maoists have gone out of control like a wild elephant. Killing people, threatening them and obstructing the peace process will bring them nothing in return. They are good for nothing and are always fond of blaming others.
Imagine what would have happened had President Ram Baran Yadav agreed to their conditions regarding the expelling of the then Chief of Army Staff. If that had happened, the Nepal Army would have transformed into a ´Red Army´. We gave them the opportunity to rule the nation and they ruined everything,” Singh said bluntly.
“They are the sole reason behind the delay in the constitution-writing process and because of them even the budget has not been passed yet. Do they have any idea what the consequences will be if the government fails to pass the budget in time?” he questioned and concluded by requesting the UCPN-Maoist to act with social responsibility and maturity.
