KATHMANDU, April 28: Sister organizations of the ruling Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), under directives from the party, hit the streets on Tuesday demanding action against Nepal Army (NA) chief General Rookmangud Katawal.

The rally, led by junior level leaders including student and YCL (Young Communist League) leaders, began from Sahid Gate and converged into a mass meeting at Ratna Park. Addressing the rally, student leaders strongly criticized Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala, CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and the army chief. They urged their party leadership to move ahead and sack army chief Katawal soon. Maoist central leader Krishna KC and general secretary of its student organization Himal Sharma, among others, also addressed the meeting.
