Indian Army Chief Naravane conferred honorary rank of general of Nepal Army

KATHMANDU, Nov 5: The Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army, General Manoj Mukund Naravane has been conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Nov 5: The Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army, General Manoj Mukund Naravane has been conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army on Thursday.


In a special ceremony at the Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari conferred the highest rank of Nepal Army on Naravane.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Indian Ambassador Vinay M Kwatra and other senior government officials of both the countries.


The practice follows a seven decade old tradition of conferring Army Chiefs of each other's country with the honorary title.


In January last year, Chief of Army Staff of Nepali Army General Purna Chandra Thapa was also conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army by President Ram Nath Kovind at a special ceremony held in New Delhi.
