A group of five people pelted cell phones wrapped in plastic bag at Khamyahang while he was working in his chamber. He, however, narrowly escaped the attack.
The Yadav-led Maoist, issuing a statement, has owned up the incident. The Maoists have accused Khamyahang of corruption.
Talking to journalists after the incident, Khamyahang said, “I will not be threatened by such attacks. I am ready to carry a gun if the state allows me to do that.”
Deputy Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar BC said the police have intensified search for those involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, issuing a joint press statement, 11 political parties in the district have condemned the incident. “There are legal processes to punish the corrupt,´” reads the statement, adding, the attempted attack, which bypasses legal procedures, however, is highly objectionable.
The parties also demanded that the Yadav-led Maoists immediately stop such activities. Similarly, Chief District Officer of Dhankuta Kali Prasad Parajuli, Local Development Officer Babu Ram Gautam and various other government offices have condemned the incident.
