The replica of Lumbini is being developed as per the plan of a Nepali national Yekraj Giri in Spain and on the initiative of Gobinda Subedi in Belgium. According to Mayor Chaudhary, Madrid Municipality has already accepted the request of Nepalis to provide land to develop Buddha Park.
“We held discussion about establishing sisterhood relations between our municipality and their municipality. Our friends have proposed to develop Buddha Park. I have accepted to that proposal,” said Mayor Chaudhary.
According to him, Madrid Municipality representatives, who visited Lumbini recently, have been asked to extend support for education, health, tourism and agriculture in Lumbini area. As many people in Spain do not know about Nepal, Chaudhary said the development of Buddha Park could help make Nepal known among the locals.
