KATHMANDU, April 14: Senior CPN-UML leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has warned former King Gyanendra Shah with jail if the latter tried to disrupt the parties´ initiatives toward institutionalizing the achievements of the people´s movement 2006 such as republic, federalism and secularism.

He even warned that anyone who goes against the achievements of the 2006 movement will be "eliminated". "He [former king] has been provided Nepal Police and Armed Police Force security. [break]

There were army personnel deployed for his security until recently. If he continues to plot against the achievements then he will be directly sent inside [to jail]," the former prime minister said at a function in Kathmandu on Saturday.

The government recently withdrew the army personnel deployed for the former king´s security and deployed Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel for the same purpose.

The former prime minister on the occasion also reaffirmed that the new constitution will be promulgated by May 27 saying it is possible.

The Constituent Assembly is yet to resolve some thorny issues of the new constitution such as system of governance, number of provinces, their names and delineation in state restructuring. After resolving the contentious issues, the Constitutional Committee of the CA will have to prepare an integrated draft of the new constitution, hold public deliberations over the draft and endorse it by two-thirds majority of the 601-seat CA.

"After resolving the disputes, we need at least one to two weeks at most to prepare the draft. We need some more time for other purposes of the drafting but we must complete all the tasks by May 27," he said. "And, afterward, you know we need to go for elections."
