Lightning kills four in Parsa

BIRGANJ, June 17: Four people were killed when lighting struck a hut where they were sheltering during Monday morning´s downpour.



According to the police, Gaya Mukhiya, 50 of Bariyabirta VDC-7 and Ram Babu Sah Kanu of Jhauguthi VDC-1 died on the spot at Bairiyabirta-7 in Parsa district. Likewise, Shambhu Raut, 60, and Manikh Miya, 45, of Bairiyabirta VDC-7, died in the course of treatment at Naryayani Sub-Regional Hospital in Birgunj. Durga Prasad Sah Kanu, of Jhauwaguthi VDC-1, who was injured in the incident, is undergoing treatment.



Mukhiya, Raut and Miya were planting paddy in the field and had taken shelter in the hut after rains started. While Sah duo were heading for their village and had to take shelter in the same hut due to rains.



“The hut was burning after the lightning struck. The people inside the hut also caught fire,” said Rajib Kumar Tripathi, a local. According to Superintendent of police, Pitambar Adhikari, the bodies were handed over to the concerned families after post mortem.
