KATHMANDU, May 9: Lawmakers have raised various contemporary issues during the zero hour in the parliament to draw the government's attention in today's meeting of the House of Representatives.
Lawmaker Sher Bahadur Kunwar urged the government to focus on the safety of thousands of Nepali citizens working in various professions in India, amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Lawmaker Shishir Khanal called on the government to be vigilant about the potential impact of the India-Pakistan tensions on Nepal and Nepali citizens, and to take steps to rescue Nepali students studying in Pakistan.

Lawmaker Bina Jaiswal emphasized that due to the open border between Nepal and India, Nepal must tighten its security measures. Similarly, Lawmaker Shanti Shrestha raised the issue of difficulties faced by persons with disabilities in terms of mobility, highlighting that despite having skills and abilities, they are often forced to stay at home. She urged the government to allocate the necessary budget for addressing these issues.
Another lawmaker, Shiva Nepali urged the government to prepare for disaster management in a timely manner with the onset of the monsoon season.
Lawmaker Shobha Gyawali highlighted the damage caused by floods in the rivers of Bardiya, which have eroded agricultural land and flooded settlements, leading to significant loss of life and property. She called on the government to allocate an immediate budget to address the issues in the region.
Lawmaker Saraswati Bajim urged the government to ensure the provision of necessary seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation for farmers. She also drew attention to the damage caused by animals like monkeys, wild boars, and porcupines, which are destroying crops.
Lawmaker Saraswati Subba mentioned that the tensions between India and Pakistan are affecting South Asian countries and could have an impact on Nepal as well. She called on the government to pay attention to this issue.
