KATHMANDU, June 20: Lawmakers have claimed that an excessive amount of the budget has been allocated to the districts of top leaders and ministers of major political parties.
During today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, while discussing the appropriations for various ministries, they expressed dissatisfaction over the budget not being distributed proportionally.
Participating in the discussion, lawmaker Deepak Giri expressed disagreement over the allocation of only Rs 10 million for the construction of Tarigaun Airport in Dang. Speaking during the deliberations on the Appropriation Bill, he said that despite the government’s announcement that no project would receive less than Rs 30 million, insufficient funds had been allocated for land acquisition for the airport, failing to address the concerns of lawmakers.

Similarly, lawmaker Menaka Kumari Pokharel stated that although the Prime Minister himself had given assurances and expressed commitment regarding the construction of Tarigaun Airport, only a minimal budget had been allocated.
Lawmaker Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar remarked that the budget allocation is neither people-oriented nor realistic. He emphasized the need to establish an effective structure for cooperative regulation with the involvement of local governments.
Similarly, lawmaker Amar Bahadur Thapa expressed the view that the budget is not in the interest of the people or the broader welfare of the country. Similarly, lawmaker Ranju Kumari Jha demanded equal budget allocation for all districts.
Ram Prakash Chaudhary stated that the federal government has failed to allocate the budget for Madhesh Province based on ground realities. He complained that there was no progress in the current fiscal year’s budget for physical infrastructure in Sarlahi and that no budget has been allocated for the upcoming fiscal year either.
Lawmaker Prabhu Shah questioned whether it is justifiable for the government to collect taxes from private businesses and industrialists while state-run industries and enterprises continue to operate at a loss. Highlighting the frequent closures of highways connecting the federal capital and the resulting public hardship, he claimed that budget allocations and road construction have been concentrated only in the districts of ruling party leaders.
Lawmaker Ram Krishna Yadav agreed that there has been discrimination, as the budget has been focused solely on the constituencies of ministers and top leaders. Similarly, lawmaker Ishwar Bahadur Rijal stated that despite the immense potential in the tourism sector of Dolakha, the district has not received the expected budget allocation.
