KATHMANDU, June 12: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has claimed that the budget allocated for three districts was not large in size.

Responding to the queries raised in the course of deliberations on the budget for the coming fiscal year 2023/24 in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, Finance Minister Mahat mentioned, "A total of Rs 123 billion was allocated towards capital expenditure for the Ministry of Physical Infrastructures and Transport. So the budget allocated for three districts was not large in size."

He clarified that the ministry had to increase budget for road projects on the basis of necessity as some of the hilly districts still do not have basic road infrastructures. The finance minister further said a sufficient amount of the budget has also been allocated in Madhesh Province.

Minister Mahat shared, "Adequate budget has been allocated for national pride projects and big projects in Madhesh Province including East-West Highway, Pathalaiya-Birgunj corridor, Chandrapur-Gaur Highway, postal highway, Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Project etc."

Saying that a sufficient budget has been allocated for the Tarai/Madhesh-Kathmandu Fast Track, he added that a large space of budget is allocated for social security, education and health sectors of Madhesh Province.
