KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Nepal’s leg-spin sensation Sandeep Lamichhane made a memorable debut for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) against Guyana Amazon Warriors at Providence on Friday. He picked up two wickets in his four overs in Patriots’ loss by six wickets.
Defending the total of 148 runs, Patriots captain Chris Gayle tossed the ball to Lamichhane for the second over of the second innings. Lamichhane's first delivery in the CPL was far from the best ball he's ever bowled, but Chadwick Walton drove the leg-stump half-volley straight to Ben Cutting at mid-on. Lamichanne's first over had produced a second chance. Shimron Hetmyer, facing his first ball, was deceived by a googly and was stranded outside his crease but wicketkeeper Devon Thomas barely even laid a glove on the ball. Hetmyer went on to score a match-winning half-century.
Lamichhane showcases another stellar performance in CPL
Lamichhane bowled three more terrific overs and ended the day with figures of 2 for 12 in four overs whereas other Patriots bowlers conceding 136 runs in 12.3 overs. Hetmyer sealed on an emphatic victory with 45-ball 79*. Earlier, Gayle had scored 86 runs in 65 deliveries to take the Patriots total to 148 runs in 20 overs.
Patriots play their second game on Saturday against Shah Rukh Khan’s Trinbago Knight Riders.
