"With the operation of the unit, the hydroelectric project is generating 45 megawatts (MW) of electricity," he said. The total capacity of the project is 92 MW. Kulekhani is the only storage type hydroelectric project in the country.

The NEA is planning to make some changes to the load-shedding schedule by Sunday after observing the unit´s performance. "The unit is now in trial operation. We can make some changes in load shedding schedule only by Sunday," he said.

The NEA is officially enforcing a four-hour power cut schedule since June 1. But with the rise in water levels in the rivers in recent days, the public utility has cut power supply not for more than two hours, according to Bhat.
