KATHMANDU, Aug 20: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is going to arrange mid-day meals for the students of grades 6-10.
Last year, the metropolis was providing meals for students up to grade 8.
KMC collects Rs 2.92 billion in revenue in four months
As the federal government has been providing day meal expenses of Rs 15 per student up to grade 8, Kathmandu Metropolis increased the expenses by Rs 10 to Rs 25 last year.
This year, the Ministry of Finance has allocated the mid-day meal amount only for those up to grade 5. The metropolis has taken the initiative of contributing an additional Rs 15, resulting in a total meal allowance of Rs 30 per student.
Sitaram Koirala, chief of the Education Department at the KMC, has sent letters to implement the meal amount in accordance with the allocated amount said to be provided by the metropolis from August/September.
The KMC has allocated Rs 750 million for education this year.
