KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is preparing to teach yoga in schools.
Chinikaji Maharjan, Coordinator of the Health and Education Committee, said that the KMC has stressed on the construction of a ground for conducting yoga and sports.
Yoga – An Ancient Blessing
Speaking at a program organized by the Health Department on the occasion of the 9th National Yoga Day, Maharjan said, “We don't just teach syllabus in schools. We also teach the skill of being happy through Yoga.”
Maharjan said that the KMC emphasis is on diagnostic treatment methods rather than curative health services. He said that yoga should be developed not as a racial, religious and communal property, but as a common property indispensable for healthy human life.
Sajina Maharjan, the Acting Head of the Health Department, said that the program aims at preventing non-communicable diseases by activating the physical inactivity of city dwellers. She said that the Aarogya Jeevan program was conducted under KMC vision to promote Ayurvedic and alternative treatment methods.
