KMC begins imposing Rs 500 fine for smoking in public spaces

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started imposing a fine of Rs 500 on individuals found smoking in public places.

According to Chief of the Municipal Police Rajunath Pandey, the enforcement began on August 17, following prior notice. “We have started collecting Rs 500 per individual caught smoking in public spaces,” Pandey said, adding that municipal police teams have been deployed across various intersections holding placards that read ‘Do not smoke in public places’ to raise awareness.


The action is being implemented under the Tobacco Products (Control and Regulation) Act, 2011.
