According to the chief of the Public Health Division at the KMC, Dr Babu Ram Gautam, the monitoring team, which will include doctors, veterinarians and officials, will visit the capital´s five major meat markets including Babarmahal, Kalanki, Bijulibazar, Balaju and Tinkune. The team will also inspect various slaughter houses.
The monitoring team will segregate healthy and unhealthy goats and paint green on the horns of healthy ones and red on the horns of unhealthy ones. The unhealthy goats will be kept under observation for 24 hours by veterinarians as there are chances of the unhealthy goats recovering within that period, doctors said. Officials said selling of unhealthy goats or meat of such goats will not be allowed.
Gautam said anyone found selling unhealthy goat/meat will face strong action.
“I request the people to choose only green horned goats for Dashain,” Gautam said.
